Eve and I slept late today. The bed is quite comfortable and we just didn’t want to get up yet. We laid there and talked about what to do today, this was going to be our last full day in Morocco.
We miss the kids, it’s going be nice to get back home to see them. I hope they didn’t give Dorothy a difficult time; but I guess we’ll find that out soon enough.
The shower this morning is good, hot water from start to finish. We all went over to the dining hall to have coffee, it wasn’t open yet so we drove into town get one.

This is the waterfront in Sale’. Not sure what’s behind the fence in the centre left of the frame, looks like it could be shaping up to be another graveyard
We found a pizzeria, how about that; this was the first Italian restaurant we’ve seen since we got to Morocco. We went in for a coffee and pizza breakfast. The coffee was okay but the pizza really sucked.
We each had one small piece, that was more than enough; they sure don’t know how to make pizza here.
I think the toppings were: olives, bugs, bark and sheep shit.
We finished chocking down the last mouthful then hit the road. Took a short drive around town then headed back to the bungalow.
We sat around for awhile and talked about what to do today; we’ll smoke a few joints and then decide…
Okay, we’ve decided. We’re going to cook a nice big spaghetti dinner tonight. As this was going to be our last meal in Morocco as a group and we felt it needed to be a bit special.
Us guys headed out to the marketplace on the hunt for spaghetti fixings. Went to a vegetable market to get tomatoes, onions and garlic, that was easy.

Fruit, vegetable and spice markets in Sale’
fruit and veg’s are fresh everyday
Off to a meat market to look for something that resembled ground beef.
What we found looked like it might be beef, although it could have been anything with four legs, but who knows? There was however one person who knew, but we’re not going to ask him.
As long as it wasn’t bugs, bark and shit, we didn’t care, nor did we question.
Off to look for some pasta, found that easy enough.
Now we need spices; salt, pepper, and oregano in particular.
The spice market vendors had a huge selection, they probably had every spice you could think of. We zoned in on a couple of guys to help us, but when we asked for oregano they just laughed, of course we didn’t know what was so funny, but each time we said oregano they would laugh.

A no refrigeration meat market, so
whatever you buy, cook it the day you get it

An awesome rich red wine from Meknes. It was a blend, but similar to Merlot
Obviously oregano means something quite different in Arabic than just the name of a spice. But we couldn’t make them understand what we wanted without making them laugh.
One of the guys motioned for us to step up into there wagons and have a look for ourselves. This was very helpful.
We had been in the wagons for a couple of minutes when a few other vendors saw us rummaging through the spices and were curious, so now they’ve come over to talk to their buddies to find out what’s going on.
Up in the wagons we moved through the barrels and bags looking in and sniffing their contents.
Every time we said oregano they would all laugh.
We would liked to have known if oregano was actually a real word in Arabic, or if it was maybe the equivalent of blah blah blah. We never did find out what it meant.
There was now about four or five or maybe even six of these guys hanging around, and this has now turned into quite the little improv comedy show; we were all having a total blast.
Of course us guys were really high and having fun with the comedy thing, so now we’re beefing up the improv routine by adding a few animated body language gestures in order to get some extra humor mileage out of the experience, it was all good fun.
They were all loving it and howling with laughter.
Maybe they were they all laughing so hard because they may have been higher than we were.
Given where we are it was quite possible.
We got the salt and pepper okay, it took a while but we finally found the oregano, they called it something I couldn’t even pronounce; at least that’s what I think they said.
As we about to leave they all shook our hand and patted us on the back, still laughing; these guys were a happy crew, and a good audience as well.
The whole episode was such a blast. We had all made each others day.
Now we’re off to get a couple of big hunks of bread and maybe one or two or five bottles of Meknes wine.
Now it’s back to the compound to start preparing dinner. Everyone pitched in with the prep work. Al and I will be doing the cooking; Eve, Mel and Aileen will be rounding out the dinner event with their skills at filling pipes with bud, rolling joints and pouring wine.
We had to cook everything in stages because we only had one byrner so it was going to take quite awhile. But this is going to be an awesome dinner, man.

Everywhere we went the bread is different, but no matter where we got our bread it was absolutely great, I’ve never had any that was better.
While we were doing everything required in getting organized, and cooking dinner, we also took several breaks. These breaks gave us many opportunities to test the quality of the wine and the weed; and we tested the hell out of them too; they passed the test.
We’re weed high, and now also catching a wine buzz. We’re all yacking about shit; most of the time there were two or three of us all talking at once,
we were having such a blast.
We laughed about all the fun we’ve had together, talked about all of the places we had been, things we had seen, and some of the crazy fucked up shit that we did.
It’s taken quite a while to make dinner, but it’s finally cooked and ready to eat, there’s lots of it and we were all hungry as bears.
Well it turned out to be “the greatest spaghetti dinner of all time”, that’s what we thought anyhow.
It was absolutely delicious and no one was disappointed. We loved it and ate every bit of it, and of course drank all the wine and smoked more joints.
This has turned out to be another one of those over the top fantastic days…
We were all so totally wrecked from lots of wine and joints, and completely satisfied with a great dinner, Today has been such a holy fuck-WOW day; we couldn’t have asked for anything better.
We all took a long final walk along the shoreline, talked more about what a wonderful time we’ve all had. It’s been quite the adventure to say the least.
Although there had been many great days and events throughout our month in Morocco, some of them have been absolute stand outs. For me, the number one has to be riding ‘The Marrakesh Express’; that’s a given for sure.
Then of course “the Gigantic Valley” that moved me so deeply, also very high on the scale, as was the drive of our lives on the road of impending doom; which I really thought was going to be the last day of our lives, very scary and absolutely memorable.
And of course, the engagement we had with the cops on the drive back from Aglou; which was without a doubt the most fucked up event that we involved ourselves in.
And then today, an incredibly exciting fun filled afternoon of,
‘the spice wagon improv players animated comedy show’,
and to top it all off, ‘the greatest spaghetti dinner of all time’.
and a wonderful time was had by all
If there was a prize for the weirdest and most fucked up encounter,
by any measure it would surely go to the two stupidest cops any of us have ever encountered in our lives.
That episode wasn’t so much fun initially, but in the end it turned out okay, but it was scary as hell, but incredibly exciting and unforgettable; and really funny as well. [but only after the fact]
For me they have all been major highlight days, ones that I’ll always remember….
What incredible experiences they have all been.
Well, its getting quite late now, we’re tired. We’ve got a really big day ahead of us tomorrow; it’s time to go to bed.
